Dear WinLyrics users,

Many of you may wonder why there's no support or response from WinLyrics team for more than year. So what's up with WinLyrics project? Is it dead forever? No, it's not.

We are still running the database. We still take care of the server. The traffic at our server reached enormous numbers - we serve about 200 000 requests each day. Such burden needs a single dedicated server to keep response times at rational level.

But vast majority - about 95% - of all the traffic on the server is caused by cracked copies of WinLyrics. In this situation, WinLyrics projects generates funds so-so sufficient to cover the server-hosting costs. Any additional support would get it far behind our temporal and financial reserves. That's why we temporarily stopped responding at the forum, stopped developement, and left WinLyrics running on its own.

As the number of users with cracked copies of WinLyrics increases over time and the project balances around the no-profit-at-all point, we are forced to consider stopping the project definitely.

But first we will try to get rid of crackers. We liked to serve several hundreds of thousands of people listening their music and willing to read what they hear actually, but we can't do it for free for almost all of them, sorry. So we will try to reduce drastically non-registered users' requests. When this returns WinLyrics back to slightly profitable state, we can consider keeping it running, and even implementing some features stated about a year ago, such as quality rating, user identification (for uploads), and so on.

In any case, registered users don't have to worry about their accounts - if we stop the WinLyrics project, it will run for our registered users community. We also appreciate the help of users adding new lyrics to our database. As a thanks for their effort, we also consider treat such users as "registered". But to prevent everybody sending us random garbagge, first the user identification would have to be implemented on the server.

These are our plans with WinLyrics. Now you know the reason why WinLyrics appears as a dead project. In fact, it's not dead yet; it's in a coma. Before disconnecting it from the machines, we will try to think out some cure.
